The Good, the Bad, and the Weird (2008) I have been occupied recently with a genre class at school. It is a pre-session that lasts only three weeks. It’s a lot of work, but I have been writing papers about horror movies and generally digging it. I did get out to see this South Korean film this weekend. It is worth seeing, especially if you are into westerns. Nothing much else going on. Tonight’s Mondo Monday at The Loft is a film called Grizzly. I am working on a blurb about it for The Loft. It looks like a lot of good stuff is coming this summer. Here is a link to my Citizen review of The Good, the Bad, and the Weird And thanks to whoever has been looking at Off the Marquee recently; that seems to be going pretty well. Keep it up. It makes me feel less useless.
R.I.P. 1942-2010 I am extremely bummed to find out about the passing of rock legend Ronnie James Dio. Dio’s positivity was often overlooked due to his fantasy lyrics, dramatic persona, and fantastical stage antics. He was a bright light as much as he was a star. Dio died of complications relating to stomach cancer on Sunday, May 16th. “I’m standing alone, but I still rock you.” He will be missed.
I have been really into Cronenberg lately. I am gearing up for The Human Centipede (First Sequence). What else is going on? It feels weird not having the radio show, but I am hunkering down to finish working on a novel over the summer. Here is a link to my review of Cronenberg’s remake of The Fly for The Citizen. The Fly (1986) This Has been a pretty diverse week. I got to interview ‘Crazy Heart’ author Thomas Cobb. I also did reviews for one of my favorite David Lynch movies Mulholland Drive. I also reviewed this week’s Mondo Monday at The Loft. The movie is Herschall Gordon Lewis’ Scum of the Earth. Mr. Cobb was a very interesting interview. He will be in Tucson for a special screening of Crazy Heart at The Loft on May 6th. He will also be reading at Oro Valley Public Library on May 8th to promote his latest novel ‘Shavetail.’ Here are some links to what I have been up to this week: Mulholland Drive (2001) Tender Mercies (1983) Scum of the Earth (1963) |
